According to foreign media reports, the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) in India has developed a new technology that can convert tannery waste into fertilizer.

They first clean the waste wool residue and then hydrolyze it with a new strain of bacteria to produce a liquid keratin hydrolysate that can be used to make natural fertilizers.

CLRI has also developed an organic supplement for agricultural use using a similar method.

The National Agriculture Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Chennai, tested these products and found that using this fertilizer and supplement can effectively increase crop yields.

Shakila Shobana, a scientist at CLRI, said, "Animal hair is rich in nutrients such as keratin, which are key components for healthy plant growth
